Gartner-HypeCycle-2019

Clausmark is featured in the Gartner Hype Cycle for ITSM, 2019!

Clausmark is listed for the second consecutive year in the Gartner Hype Cycle for ITSM (IT Service Management), 2019. Clausmark is one of only seven "Sample Vendors" in the IT Financial Management Tools space included in this report.

Here’s what Gartner, the world’s leading research and advisory firm, has to say about its Hype cycles (external link): “Gartner Hype Cycles vividly demonstrate how mature and successful technologies and applications are, and how important they are for solving real-world business problems and unlocking new opportunities. The Gartner Hype Cycle methodology gives you an overview of how a technology or application will evolve over time, and provides you with a sound source of information to guide deployment in the context of your specific business goals.”

In the Hype Cycle for ITSM, 2019, Gartner reports, “IT service management innovations enable IT teams to deliver services, support the business consumer, and transition IT into a strategic partner role in the digital business. The Hype Cycle for ITSM provides I&O leaders with guidance on key practices, tools and technologies.” Examples of technologies included in the Hype Cycle report are IT Service Dependency Mapping, Bimodal IT Operations, and the area for which we were included as a Sample Vendor, IT Financial Management Tools.

About the IT Financial Management Tools category, Gartner explains, “ITFM tools provide IT managers with the financial insights to ‘run IT like a business,’ with increased visibility into IT spending at the technical, application, service and investment levels. Interest in these tools to support IT cost optimization, showback, chargeback and effective cost visibility continues to grow as CIOs seek clarity in IT financial and budgeting processes.”

Further, Gartner says, “Tools in this category are mature and offer established capabilities such as visibility, cost modeling, budgeting, benchmarking, etc., moving ITFM tools to the plateau of productivity (and out of the hype cycle next year).”

Technical approach - building IT system landscapes

For many years, the focus of Enterprise Architecture was on the documentation of IT systems, interfaces and technologies. Even today, this is an essential component and often the start of enterprise architecture management motivated by IT. These elements of EA are often referred to as technology architecture, application architecture, and data architecture. In contrast, the business architecture (cf. Section 1.2.2) was usually captured, documented and optimized by other organizational units, often then also in other applications, but ideally with interfaces to the technical elements. The goal of capturing the IT system landscape is transparency about the systems and interfaces used. Only then is structured adaptability of the IT landscape and reliable, long-term planning possible.
Lack of content and integrative alignment, as well as coping with day-to-day business, make it difficult to implement and plan a structured IT landscape and co-creating IT.
